Project description
The "Adventurer Spirit" project, the final thesis for the graphic design undergraduates of Park University, was presented on May 3rd, 2024, at UNION 848 Modern Event Space in Kansas City. It was organized by the Graphic Design Department at Park University and Baldwin Vernon. The project draws inspiration from Connecticut’s rich history and timeless traditions, blending old-fashioned elegance with a rugged, refined aesthetic. The presented material reflects the classic charm of New England, celebrating craftsmanship and the spirit of exploration. The aim was to create an immersive experience that would inspire others to embark on their own travels, sparking a sense of adventure and wanderlust. Incorporating vintage aesthetics, the design utilizes light and dark brown colors, evoking the timeless charm of old styles, along with rusty and dusty textures to emphasize the presence of old-fashioned craftsmanship.
Challenge
The brand required a visually compelling identity to connect with its audience and communicate its mission effectively. The challenge was to develop a design from the ground up that would embody the brand's essence of camping culture and its passion for continuous adventure. Additionally, the design needed to be user-friendly, engaging the target audience and evoking a sense of wanderlust and exploration.
Ways of Working
This was an individual project where I worked independently, incorporating regular feedback from the instructor to ensure the design met all graphic design standards. I focused on blending classic and vintage design elements to reflect the brand's professionalism while crafting a dynamic, engaging visual identity that resonated with its adventurous spirit.
Process
This category details the step-by-step approach taken during the project, including research, planning, design process, development, and implementation phases.
Research & Planning
I conducted thorough research to understand the target audience's preferences. By analyzing competitors and industry trends, I identified key design elements that would resonate with the target audience while aligning with the museum’s mission. The research guided the creation of a visual identity that reflected the brand’s professionalism and cultural significance.
Design Process
I developed the brand identity from scratch, combining classic and vintage design elements to capture the brand's essence. I iterated on various design concepts, refining typography, color schemes, and visual assets to ensure the final identity was both timeless and modern. Throughout the process, I consulted with instructors for feedback to align the design with professional standards and the museum’s objectives.
Development & Implementation
The final design was implemented across various brand materials, ensuring consistency and cohesion in all visual elements. I focused on translating the identity into practical applications such as signage, promotional materials, and digital assets, ensuring that each touchpoint reflected the brand's core values and engaged the audience effectively.
